John Hoover was born 19 Feb 1755 in Lancaster County,
Pennsylvania.

John Hoover was born on February 19, 1755, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (specifically in what is now Lebanon, as noted in some records, since Lebanon was part of Lancaster County until 1813).

During the American Revolution, in the summer of 1776, he served three months as a private in Captain Thomas Copenhaver’s company under Colonel Greenawalt’s regiment. In December 1776, he served an additional three months as a private in Captain Frederick Stover’s company under Major Abraham Latshaw’s regiment. According to “Pennsylvania in the War of the Revolution: Battalions and Line, 1775-1783,” Vol. 1, p. 425, he also served in the Continental Line for Pennsylvania.

He is recognized by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR Ancestor #A057852) as a private in the Pennsylvania service, with residence in Lebanon (Lancaster County), Pennsylvania. His service is described under Captain Copenhaver and Colonel Greenawalt.

Around 1785, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, John married Margaret Smith (born about 1765; died 1833). They had 10 children: John, Elizabeth “Betsy,” Peter, Mary Pauline “Polly,” Abraham, Catherine, Nicholas, George H., Margaret, and an infant who died at or near birth.

By 1793, John and his family had moved to Harrison County, Kentucky, and by 1806, they relocated to Franklin County, Ohio. John died around 1840 and is buried on land that was once part of his farm near Grove City in Franklin County, Ohio.
