Recruiting & Educating the Flowertown Festival attendees on the American Revolution.
Fort Dorchester Chapter members Tim Hilton, Stephen Worsham, Danny Miante, Jeff Ball and Ken Buchanan volunteered at the Flowertown Festival manning a SAR booth recruiting, educating on the American Revolution and providing SC250 handouts. Norm Garland, John Gordon, Don Doud and Steven Dimascio also helped out in the planning.
It is with immense pride and heartfelt admiration that the Fort Dorchester Chapter of the South Carolina Society of the Sons of the American Revolution proudly announces the presentation of the Chapter Distinguished Service Medal to our esteemed Compatriot Wilford “Skip” Burn Jr. by Chapter President Ken Buchanan. Skip’s extraordinary dedication, tireless leadership, and unwavering commitment to preserving our Revolutionary heritage have profoundly enriched our chapter and the broader SAR mission in Dorchester County and beyond.
As a visionary leader who has served with distinction—including as Chapter President—he has spearheaded vital initiatives such as securing grants for historical markers, fostering community partnerships, welcoming new members, and ensuring the stories of our Patriot ancestors are told inclusively and vividly for future generations. His selfless service, marked by enthusiasm, integrity, and an infectious passion for patriotic education and commemoration, exemplifies the highest ideals of the Sons of the American Revolution. This well-deserved recognition honors not only Skip’s exceptional contributions during his tenure but also inspires every Compatriot to continue the noble work of honoring those who fought for our liberty.
Congratulations, Skip—your legacy strengthens our chapter and our shared commitment to “cherish, maintain and extend the institutions of American freedom.”
SCSSAR, SC250, Berkley 250, American Friends of Lafayette jointly sponsored the marking of the graves of Patriots Henry Laurens, President of the Continental Congress, and his son Colonial John Laurens, Aide de Camp to General George Washington.
The Fort Dorchester Chapter of the South Carolina Society of the Sons of the American Revolution extends its heartfelt thanks to LtCol. Ed Forte, USMC (Ret.), for his outstanding presentation on the Continental Marines during the Revolutionary War at our chapter meeting on February 19, 2026. His engaging and well-researched talk illuminated the critical role these early Marines played in the fight for independence—from their establishment by the Continental Congress in 1775 to their amphibious operations, shipboard duties, and contributions on land alongside Continental Army forces.
LtCol. Forte’s expertise, drawn from his distinguished Marine Corps career and deep historical knowledge, brought this vital chapter of American and Marine Corps history to life for our members, enriching our understanding of the Patriots we honor.
We are grateful for his time, passion, and dedication to preserving the legacy of the Revolution, and we look forward to future opportunities to learn from him. Semper Fi, and thank you, LtCol. Forte!
